The Royals select LHP Christian Chamberlain at #105

Christian Chamberlain is the next player selected by the Royals at 105th overall.  He is a shorter pitcher at 5’10” weighing in at 170 pounds.  Most people see him as a reliever in professional baseball but the Royals often give pitchers the chance to start until they can’t.

Chamberlain had a fantastic start to the 2020 season before the shutdown going 2-1 with an 0.82 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 22.0 innings.  The Royals have done a good job targeting pitchers who strike batters out in the last several drafts and Chamberlain appears to be right in line with that philosophy.  Chamberlain struck out 12 in a start against Mississippi State earlier this spring.

Chamberlain works up to 95 with some life.  He has an above average curve with some slurve movement.  Chamberlain also throws a change up that is his third pitch.  If he wants to start, he needs to develop the change up as he has a two pitch reputation.
