Readers, please join us in welcoming another very talented draft selection to the Royal family. Brady McConnell, a sophomore shortstop selected out of the University of Florida, would bring further meaning to the term “family” if he signs. The 6’3” infielder bats and throws right handed, and would join fellow former Florida Gators Brady Singer and Jackson Kowar in the Royals’ system. He is originally from Merritt Island, Florida.
McConnell was taken in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, but did not sign. At the time, he was ranked 29th overall in the class of 2017, and the #5 shortstop in the country. In his freshman season in 2018, he only saw action in 9 games (5 starts) at shortstop, as he was dealing with a season-long injury. Nonetheless, his collegiate debut in the 2018 season opener put his talent on display, as he went 1-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI.
