The Kansas City Royals have selected Arkansas third baseman Cayden Wallace with the 49th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. The Royals traded their second pick of the draft to Atlanta for Drew Waters, Andrew Hoffmann, and CJ Alexander, so their second pick was not be until #49.
In the 2022 RFR Draft Guide, we ranked Wallace as the 44th best prospect in this draft. Here’s a little snippet of that write up:
“Over the last two seasons, the Razorback has hit 30 home runs in 323 plate appearances. He was a big prep prospect in 2020 and even though the power is real, there were a lot of questions around his hit tool and ability to find a position defensively which led him coming to Arkansas.”
Wallace slashed .298/.387/.553/.940 with 56 strikeouts and 38 walks this spring at Arkansas with 37 XBH. He has massive raw power and while his approach is a bit suspect, he plays a great third base and should be a 20+ HR threat in the future.
