Royals select Park Hill C Carter Jensen

The Royals selected Park Hill HS catcher Carter Jensen with the 78th overall pick. Jensen is committed to LSU. Jensen is 6’1″ and listed at 210. He is called a bat first catcher with a chance to stick at the position who has a possible plus arm. The good news for Jensen is the Royals believe in his bat and his ability to stick behind the plate.

Jensen got a “Kyle Schwarber but more athletic” comparison on the MLB broadcast. That’s high praise and an interesting player comp. Jensen has worked hard to be in great shape and his game took a step forward because of it. He ran a sub-7.0 60 in his workouts. He will have to get stronger to handle the position behind the plate but everyone, and especially the Royals, believes he can do it.

The Royals continue to draft young guys with huge ceilings. Jensen turned 18 just a week ago and projects to be a middle of the order type of bat. Jensen’s tool that will carry him is his bat. He can hit and that’s enough for us to believe in the local product from Park Hill.
