5.) Ryan McBroom – 8
These are five of the best pitching prospects that Kansas City has had since Yordano Ventura made his big league debut. Add in Asa Lacy who started his pro career in A+, Alec Marsh, Jonathan Bowlan, and Austin Cox who are currently in AA, and the Royals have a really steady flow of top-notch pitching prospects to lean on. It is FASCINATING that only two of the Core 4 + Hernandez fired a single pitch at AA before making their big league debuts. Hernandez never even made it to Wilmington!
AAA Omaha (21-9): L 1-4
Omaha couldn’t get much going offensively against what was a pretty good trio of pitchers for the Twins AAA affiliate. Byron Buxton finished 3-4 with a triple for St. Paul. Emmanuel Rivera and Ryan O’Hearn both finished 1-4 with a double for Omaha. Richard Lovelady struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of work.
AA Northwest Arkansas (14-14): W 7-6
Bobby Witt Jr. hit 873 more feet worth of HR last night. Even if only one of them wound up counting. Officially he finished the game 3-4 with a 3B, a HR, and a BB. What really happened is that the home plate umpire needed a little air time and called Bobby Baseball out after hitting a ball 430 feet because he “missed” home plate. We’ll let you be the judge of that…Nick Pratto also finished with 3 hits, just a 3B shy of the cycle. Yefri Del Rosario struck out 4 in 2 innings of 1-run ball.
A+ Quad Cities (20-10): W 6-3
Tucker Bradley finished 2-4 with his 5th 2B of the season last night for the River Bandits, raising his season average to .391 with an OPS of 1.130 in A+. Michael Massey hit HR #4. Nick Loftin tallied a pair of hits. Vinnie Pasquantino, Eric Cole, and Tyler Gentry were each on base a couple times. Garrett Davila K’d 4 in 3.1 scoreless innings to close things out.
A- Columbia (18-12): L 1-3
Columbia only managed 2 total hits last night in a loss against a good Charleston team. Omar Hernandez finished 1-2 with a BB, raising his season OPS to .708. Rylan Kaufman K’d 3 and allowed just 1 ER in 3.2 IP. Tyler Tolbert finished 1-4 and drove in the only run for the Fireflies.
