Royals speedster Nick Heath was called up a few days ago but didn’t get into a game until today. Tonight, against the Tigers in Detroit, manager Mike Matheny called Heath’s number 0 to get in the game. Heath entered into a 5-3 game after Jorge Soler singled and advanced to second on an error in the top of the ninth inning. With Kyle Funkhouser on the mound, Heath was unable to advance as Salvador Perez struck out. Ryan O’Hearn then grounded out to the right side allowing Heath to move to third. Heath was stranded when Maikel Franco flew out to center.
Matheny then left Heath in the game to serve as the club’s designated hitter. The Royals won as Trevor Rosenthal threw 100 mph fastballs by the Tigers ending the series in a split. Heath was the fourth Royal to make his big league debut this season. Congratulations to Nick and his family!
