Minor League Minutes for 9/3/19: Burlington one win away from a championship

ICYMI: Last night we announced the two final September call-ups that will be joining the big league club.

Gabe Speier had a great season with AA Northwest Arkansas before being promoted to Omaha. At AA, Speier posted an 11.28 K/9 and 2.42 ERA in 22.1 IP. Speier struggled with the homerun ball a bit upon arriving in the PCL, but still struck out 10.13 batters per nine and kept his walk rate firmly in check. Speier works with a low to mid-90’s fastball and a nice breaking ball that keeps lefties firmly in check.

  1. The Royals would be foolish not to protect Carlos Hernandez this year. 2019 was about establishing his health and he seems to be on track. Numbers reflect some of his early struggles but down the stretch he was fantastic. Teams don’t let their #13 prospect go unprotected especially with some of the fringy types on KC’s current 40 man. If Royals move Hernandez to the pen, he could be in KC by end of 2020.
