The Naturals are entering their final week of play for the 2019 season. They will finish at home. Make sure you go to the final few games because you won’t have baseball in NWA again until the spring.
The Naturals had Monday off as they traveled south to Midland. The Texas road trip is the last road trip of the season. The Naturals will finish up their season at home with a 9-game home stand.
On Tuesday, the Naturals took the first game of the series 3-2 at Midland. Brady Singer started and earned the win although it was a battle for him. Singer fought his control all game walking 5 in 5.2 innings. Singer allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 4. Daniel Tillo, Franco Terrero, and Holden Capps all earned holds in relief. Tyler Zuber earned the save. Kevin Merrell and Gabriel Cancel each had two hits. Khalil Lee had a hit and added 2 walks to his league leading 64. If Lee could cut down on his strikeouts, his on base percentage would skyrocket.
Twelve Naturals were left on base during the Wednesday 4-0 loss. Merrell set the tone with 3 hits falling a homer short of the cycle. Jordan George had two hits. Gerson Garabito took the loss in his start going 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Garabito also had 6 strikeouts.
The rubber game of the series was not kind to the Naturals. JC Cloney got rocked by the RockHounds giving up 8 runs, 6 earned, in 2.2 innings. The Naturals bull pen stabilized the game giving up 1 run over the next 5.1 innings. Freddy Fermin and George each had 2 hits. Dairon Blanco had the only RBI and Angelo Castellano scored the only run.
Friday was the start of a new series against the RoughRiders. Scott Blewett was dominate in his 7.0 innings giving up no runs on just 4 hits and 2 walks. Blewett struck out 8 hitters in the no decision. Tillo threw 1.1 innings of relief without allowing a run before Zuber gave up a run in the bottom of the 10th with 2 outs. It was the only hit he gave up. The Naturals ended up losing 1-0. Freddy Fermin was the only Natural with two hits. The Naturals didn’t have a single walk and struck out 11 times.
Saturday was another one-run loss in the 10th inning. The RoughRiders scored two runs to overcome the deficit making the loss even more heart breaking. The Naturals managed just 3 hits in this game and struck out another 11 times. Jackson Kowar took a no decision in 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk. Kowar had 6 strikeouts.
Sunday did not go extra innings and was a Naturals 5-3 victory. The Naturals had 13 singles in the game with 5 players recording multi-hit games. Blanco stole his 30th and 31st base of the season for the Naturals. Danny Duffy made the rehab start and threw 5.0 innings allowing just 1 run on 4 hits, no walks, and 4 strikeouts.
