This will be a two-week update. The Storm Chasers finished up their series with the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins) with back to back wins, and take the series 3-1. The Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) then came to town for a three game series in which the Storm Chasers finished 1-2. Then they took a road trip to Round Rock Express (Astros) for three games, winning the series 2-1. Then it was the long trip back home to Omaha for a three game set versus the San Antonio Missions (Brewers) going 0-3 and finished off the month in Tacoma Washington to face the Rainiers (Mariners) going 1-1 in the first two games of the series. During this stretch, the roster saw several changes with the call ups of O’Hearn, Staumont, Zimmer, and Lovelady to the Royals, and Nick Heath’s arrival to Omaha from AA Northwest Arkansas.

Top Performers
Erick Mejia IF – Mejia is having a solid first season in AAA. He has played in 100 games, and carries a slash line of .272/.346/.386. He leads the team in RBIs with 52. On Wednesday night in Tacoma, he added five more RBI, hitting a grand slam in the 3rd inning. In his last 10 games, Mejia has knocked in 9 RBI’s on 10 hits. He also took five walks while striking out only nine times.
Zimmer & Lovelady P – These guys have done a great job at AAA this season. So good, in fact, that they were called up within days of each other. It has been a pleasure watching them in Omaha this season, and they have continued their good run in KC, for the most part. As an opener and part time, as needed reliever, Zimmer lowered his ERA from 4.97 to 4.38 from the beginning of July until he was called up. He gave up only three earned runs in 13.1 innings in AAA in that timespan.
Lovelady has been his normal lights-out self in Omaha all season. He had an ERA of 1.59 when he got called up, and has given up only four earned runs in 22.2 innings throughout the season. He also racked up 25 strikeouts while only issuing five walks. Although he did give up two of those earned runs over 7.0 innings pitched in July before being called up. Hopefully he can keep up the good work in Kansas City the rest of the season.
