Minor League Minutes: 6/14/19

The Royals played the Tigers in Omaha last night for the first ever MLB game to be played in the state of Nebraska. Nicky Lopez hit his first career home run in his return to his old college stadium. Whit Merrifield brought back memories of his CWS heroics with two doubles. Alex Gordon got an ovation catching one of the ceremonial first pitches and unfortunately couldn’t play in the game due to a compressed nerve.  The story on the Royals website is here.

We had competing articles written at the site this week about when the best time to call up Bubba Starling is.  Travis says he is MLB ready now while Tucker says that it is not time to call up Bubba.  Read both and decide for yourself.

I’m working through watching video on some of the Royals draft picks.  I wrote about Alec Marsh here and Grant Gambrell here.

So if we take the current 2020 MLB Draft rankings, and assign them Baseball America’s way to early 2020 mock draft, we get Spencer Torkelson from Arizona State. The Orioles take Emerson Hancock, the Jay’s take Pete Crow-Armstrong, and the Marlins take Casey Martin. It’s never to early to look at next year’s draft.

The Lexington Legends are 1.5 GB in the playoff race with 4 games remaining.

The Idaho Falls Chukars announced their 2019 roster.

Shohei Ohtani hit for the cycle.

Casey Mize leaves his start early with shoulder tightness and Tigers prospect followers freak out.

Aaron Ashby moved up a level but the domination did not stop.

The Toronto Raptors won the NBA Finals and Kawhi Leonard won the MVP.
