Less than a week ago, on Monday, June 3rd, the Royals took Bobby Witt, Jr. with the second overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft. He has officially agreed to sign with the Royals at full slot value, for a total of $7,789,900.
This news was to be expected, as Witt is widely considered one of the best shortstop prospects in 20 years. Now that the signing is official, we have no doubt he will be a foundational and productive piece of the next great Royals team, and can’t wait for him to get his pro career started.
A few days before Witt was drafted second overall, he was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year. A few days later, he led his high school baseball team, Colleyville Heritage, to the state championship.
