Minor League Minutes for 5/22/19: Evan Steele pitches for first time since 2017

It was a busy night on the farm for KC. Catch up on all the action here.

In case you missed it from yesterday, Kris Bubic was promoted to High-A Wilmington, leaving a spot open in Lexington’s rotation for Evan Steele. Steele, a former 2nd round pick, missed all of 2018 with shoulder injuries.

That’s a hell of a 2019 debut for Evan Steele. The big lefty from Chipola College, when healthy, has some of the best stuff in the entire system. We figure to find out very soon whether he’ll be able to return to his old self, but if he can, he’s very legitimately a top 20 prospect in this system (that’s a big if).

Yesterday was #SingerDay in Wilmington.

  1. Thanks for the great review, Alex. Top shelf information! So pleased for Evan Steele to debut this year. His control was a good sign – no walks. I didn’t realize he was so relatively young even though coming out of JUCO that makes sense. Is Steele still below SAL average?

The Wilmington team is offensively a train wreck. I listen to the broadcasts and they are hard to follow offensively. So many strikeouts and lack of production. Where is Kyle Isbel and how long on IL? Will KC promote the Wilmington starting trio after draft as a group or one at a time? What is the latest on Carlos Hernandez and Yefri Del Rosario?

    • Isbel could be another couple of weeks. Org is pretty hush hush on Hernandez and DR. Steele is a little older than SAL average but with the injuries, that’s not a big deal.
