It’s time. According to Jeffrey Flanagan in Twitter, Nicky Lopez has been added to the big league roster and will presumably make his big league debut tomorrow night when the Royals take on the Texas Rangers at Kauffman Stadium at 7:15.
This is it Kansas City. Your hero has arrived. Lopez was slashing .353/.457/.500/.957 with 3 HR and 9 SB in 31 games with AAA Omaha. He’ll now get a chance to prove himself at the big league level.
Jake Newberry has been optioned to Omaha to make room for Lopez. Lopez will require a 40-man roster move, which has not been announced yet.
Now Royals fans, let’s keep our expectations in line. If Whit needs to play some 2B, what about Lopez playing 3B and Dozier playing in OF. Whit could also DH once in a while if his legs need a half-day rest.
