The Royals appear to have struck a deal with free agent outfielder Billy Hamilton.
Hamilton, a 28-year old that has spent his entire career with Cincinnati, owns a career 70 wRC+ but also has 277 SB in 690 career games. Hamilton is an elite runner who rivals anyone for the title of “fastest runner in baseball”. Check this out:
Dayton Moore and the Kansas City Royals clearly have a plan of attack for the 2019 season: run like hell.
Hamilton is a switch-hitter with elite defensive skills and elite speed. Can he hit? Not really. But he fits the Royals mold to a tee and is going to be another “action player” in the Royals lineup. Hamilton still has an opportunity to sign one more long-term deal in the big leagues, and I can’t imagine he’d be headed to KC to be a platoon option. Expect him to play nearly every day in CF, which should help increase his value in an outfield as big as Kauffman Stadium’s.
