Just as we all suspected, just a day after the 2018 Texas League All-Star Game, Nicky Lopez has been promoted to AAA Omaha.
I don’t know where Jon gets his original info from, but I can confirm that Nicky Lopez is headed to Omaha. Nice job Jon on getting the people the news they’ve been waiting for.
The Royals 23-year old MIF prospect was destroying the ball in Northwest Arkansas, slashing .331/.397/.416 in 73 games. His K% was a solid 7.1% and his wRC+ came in at an impressive 123. Lopez still wasn’t hitting for much power in AA, but his on-base skills paired with his ability to run the bases well and field his position make him one of the safest prospects in the organization.
For those of you who don’t know, Nicky Lopez has spent plenty of time playing baseball in Omaha before. Nicky played college ball at Creighton University in Omaha. The Royals drafted Nicky back in 2016 after his junior year at Creighton, when he put up an .861 OPS with 2 HR and 11 SB.
Congrats Nicky!
