In what seems like a long time coming, the Kansas City Royals have finally traded Kelvin Herrera to the Washington Nationals. There have been rumors of Washington being interested in the Royals closer for years, but the Royals finally pulled the trigger to send the former All-Star to the nation’s capital.
Kelvin Herrera was a part of the greatest bullpen that I’ve ever seen. HDH will go down in KC folklore and he will be missed dearly. Unfortunately, this is the way baseball goes and the Royals got a good one in return.
THE RETURN:
- 3B Kelvin Gutierrez, Nationals #10 prospect
- OF Blake Perkins, Nationals #11 prospect
- RHP Yohanse Morel, unranked
This feels like a good return. Kelvin Gutierrez is 23 years old in AA. Slashing .274/.321/.391 with 5 HR and 10 SB in 58 games at AA. Blake Perkins is a switch hitting OF, 21 years old, High-A, slashing .234/.344/.290 with 1 HR and 12 SB in 65 games. Not a ton of power for either guy here. Morel is 17 years old and hasn’t had much of a career yet (3.1 IP).
Scouting reports coming soon.
