With the 34th pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, the Kansas City Royals selected LHP Daniel Lynch from the University of Virginia.
This pick surprised me a bit. I didn’t exactly expect Lynch to go in the first round, but if the Royals under-slot him a bit here, he’s a guy who could help the Royals afford Singer and Kowar, and maybe another big pick at 40.
Lynch works in the low-90’s and his best secondary offering is his changeup. He’ll be a quick riser through the system with a ceiling of probably a #4 SP in the big leagues. Lynch struck out 105 batters in 88.2 IP this season with only 24 walks. His ERA was 3.96 in 13 starts.
