In case you missed our first mock draft, you can check it out here.
A lot has changed since March 8th. Alex Cobb signed with Baltimore and pushed the Royals back from 31-33 and 39-40. Casey Mize’s stock has risen to the point that he’s essentially a lock to go number 1 overall. Nander de Sedas has struggled a bit and his stock has taken a hit.
Keep in mind, that these mocks will also differ because we switched the formula this time. This time, I drafted for the West division teams, Patrick for the Central, and Drake the east. We do our mock draft based on our personal preference more than we go based on who we think teams will actually select (though that certainly plays a part in the decision). Insta-Reactions:
- It shouldn’t be understated how important it is that the Rays pick right in front of KC’s picks in the first round. The Rays, having a similar draft pool as KC, will have the first dibs at some of those over-slot guys that will be lingering around at 32 and 33 (I’ll have an article out about what that means before the draft). Guys like Ethan Hankins that could fall in the draft will have to get through Tampa Bay before KC can grab them.
- What a rise for Casey Mize, huh? The kid entered the spring as a top 10 prospect on most draft boards but has now all but solidify him as the first or second pick in this draft. It’s crazy how much some of these things can change.
- Kumar Rocker, my favorite player in this entire draft, went to Toronto at #12 again. Some publications have him falling even past the Royals at #18, but if it was up to us, he’s not even going to be around at #18 for the Royals to make the choice.
