Minor League Minutes: 3/1/18

On March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park became the world’s first national park.

The Kansas City Royals signed free agent 1B Lucas Duda.

Lucas Duda slashed .217/.322/.496 in 127 games with the Rays and Mets in 2017 with 30 HR. He’s not the most talented defensive first baseman in the world, but the man can hit.

The Royals also acquired 19-year old RHP Domingo Pena from the Rangers.

Pena is a 19-year-old RHP from the Dominican Republic. He made his professional debut at the age of 17, posting a 5.52 ERA and 2.72 FIP for the DSL Rangers in 2015, striking out 51 and walking 12 in 45.2 innings. He repeated the same level again in 2016, posting a 3.88 ERA and 3.07 FIP in 46.1 innings for his second go-around.

3.) Kevin McCarthy had another clean outing on Tuesday. I expect him to be in the big league bullpen for the entire 2018 season. He’s a sleeper to look out for this year in terms of potentially having a nice impact on the team.

The Royals DID in fact make an offer to Logan Morrison.

Max Rieper has come to live with the fact that Alcides Escobar is back.

But Ned Yost values his defense and believes in his magical ability to “ambush” pitchersand lead off, and so Alcides Escobar being in the Royals lineup becomes as inevitable as death or taxes. And at least among some fans, his appearances are just as popular as those inevitable events.
