Spring training prospect report: Game #1 (Tweets highlighting today’s action)

Day 1 player impressions from our Alex Duvall

1.) Raul Mondesi Jr. is so unbelievably talented that I want to cry every time I remember that the Royals re-signed Alcides Escobar. In his first at-bat on Saturday, Mondesi got a first pitch fastball and took a great swing. He fouled it straight back and was down 0-1. He did not bat an eye and on the second pitch was ready for the fastball again, got a slider, swung and missed, and was down 0-2. He wasn’t phased what so ever. He worked the count a little bit until he got another fastball and then absolutely hammered it over the wall in right-center field. It was a beautiful swing and produced an even more beautiful result.

Day 2: Our Alex Duvall shares videos and thoughts on his time watching the Royals in AZ.

  • Mondesi making a statement early, and making us remember why he is the most loved prospect in the system.
  • Alex believes, one current prospect is mirroring the same path of one current Royals pitcher.

Mike Axisa of CBSSports gives his Kansas City Royals 2018 season preview

The good news: Moore has shown he can take a bad team and build it into a championship club, and the Royals will have three extra picks in the 2018 draft thanks to losing Cain, Hosmer, and (eventually) Moustakas. Kansas City won’t contend in 2018. Instead, the focus this year will be building the foundation of the next contending Royals team. Let’s preview the club’s upcoming season.
