With the addition of non-roster invitee Blaine Boyer, the total players that will be in spring training for the Royals is 63. Here is a Kansas City Star article with a short blurb about each player that will be in camp.
Yesterday was Royal’s farmhand Charlie Neuwieler’s 19th birthday. Drake Downing interviewed him.
Q: How did your love for baseball manifest as a youth in New York? Who were those closest to you that helped push you to become the player you are today?
CN: “I started playing catch with my dad when I was only 2 years old. As I started getting older, I joined tee-ball which then progressively lead to little league, grammar school, travel ball and high school. My parents and my family were and still are my number one supporters, along with the many coaches I had from a young age to currently.”
Here is an article from Baseball America about Charlie.
Charlie Neuweiler is this spring’s most prominent beneficiary of the halo effect.
The Lexington Legends are combining education with their logo and have created Stache Tank.
Stache Tank follows a format similar to the popular television program “Shark Tank,” in which entrepreneurs present their ideas to a panel of potential investors. The Legends call the competition “‘Stache Tank” in recognition of the team’s mustache logo. Currently, teams of students at Northern Elementary, Crawford Middle School, and Bryan Station High School have been competing with each other at their schools to create and build the best ideas and presentations. The finalists will make presentations at Whitaker Bank Ballpark to a panel of judges made up of community leaders and Legends officials as their project timelines come to a close.

Royals only got one player in the KOTAH top 100. Check out the tweet below.
Clint Scoles at Baseball Prospectus KC looks at LHP Ryan Weathers as a potential fit for the Royals at 18 or 31.
One such pitcher who fits that profile and has a chance to be available at the 18th or in the early 30 slots is left-hander Ryan Weathers, the son of former major leaguer David Weathers. After hanging around and watching major leaguers from the time he was eight years old, the younger Weathers has found his routine and developed a style for pitching that most would analyze as older for his years, showing a flair for movement and location that helped him set a Tennessee state record with 28 strikeouts in the Class A state tourney over 14 innings and 2 games.
The Twins have officially offered Yu Darvish a contract. After losing Ervin Santana for 10 to 12 weeks this could be a big help for the Twins. Of course as Royals fans, we are torn between them not having any pitching and tanking and having pitching to compete with Indians.
MLB released an article on why every team should be excited for Spring Training in 2018. The Royals reason? We might sign Eric Hosmer.
Russell Wilson was traded. He is now a Yankee.
The veteran quarterback, Super Bowl champion and 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year was acquired by the New York Yankees on Wednesday in a deal with the Texas Rangers. The Rangers had previously claimed Wilson from Colorado and invited the infielder to Spring Training in 2014.
Wilson will join the Yankees next month but isn’t expect to play in any Major League Spring Training games. He will be initially assigned to the Double-A Trenton roster.
Jimmy Garapollo is the highest paid QB in the NFL after signing an extension that seems crazy.
Can a color make you faster? Maybe not physically, but maybe psychologically.
The Norwegian and German speed-skating teams will be racing in blue this year instead of their traditional bright red and green suits — a shift that appears to stem from a belief among some of the teams’ sports scientists that blue is a “faster” color.
I don’t do much cooking so I had no idea this existed. But maybe I should get it. The kids love french fries and the Air Fryer is supposed to make killer fries.
If you are planning on going to a college baseball game tomorrow you might go today instead. Everyone has moved games up a day. Weather could be a duzy Saturday. Check out this tweet with ice forecasts.
