Christian Binford’s time with the Kansas City Royals has come to an end. According to MLBTradeRumors, the former highly regarded prospect has signed a minor league deal with the Baltimore Orioles, as he was eligible for minor league free agency this year.
Binford has had a career that has taken a serious nosedive. After being drafted in the 29th round of the 2012 draft, he busted onto the scene as a prospect in 2013 when he posted a 2.67 ERA in 135 innings for the Lexington Legends. He hit a road bump in 2015 though, allowing a 5.22 ERA in 119 innings across AA and AAA, only striking out 69 batters. He was even worse this year, owning a 7.24 ERA in 115.2 IP with Omaha.
Baseball America ranked Binford the Royals #26 prospect in 2012, #10 in 2013, and #16 in 2014. In our current top 100 prospect series, we had Binford come in at #74.
