Thanks to an unnamed source, Royals Farm Report has a few names we can give you that appear to be among the first wave of September call ups that Ned Yost referred to a couple of days ago.
I wrote an article a while ago about some potential names for call ups, and today we can start to analyze how I did.
The call ups:
- Paulo Orlando
- Terrance Gore
- Raul Mondesi
- Cam Gallagher
- Andres Machado
The first 4 guys on this list were all listed as “locks” on my first article regarding September call ups. You should know about what to expect from Orlando and Gore. Gallagher will continue to backup Salvy and may even catch Jake Junis to give Salvy a rest.
Raul Mondesi is still an unknown. I hope he starts at SS starting tonight. We’ll see what really happens.
The interesting name here is Andres Machado. Machado started this season in High-A Wilmington but has advanced all the way to AAA Omaha as of recently. Machado had an ERA of 3.63 over 7 starts in Omaha. He was recently clocked at 97 mph with his fastball, and contains a wipe out slider and pretty good changeup. He may be here to fill in the rotation for Danny Duffy while he’s out. Machado could also be a good bullpen option for Ned Yost down the stretch.
We should know more in the coming hours about the official callups. Follow us on Twitter at @RoyalsFarm for further updates.
