Daily Royals Minor League Recap: August 3, 2017

AAA – Omaha Storm Chasers

Final Score: SAC River Cats 1 – Omaha 7

Blue Springs South grad Logan Moon continues to rake for the Storm Chasers in the absence of Bubba Starling. Moon finished Thursday's game 3-4 with a 2B, a 3B, and an RBI, only a HR short of the cycle. Moon is now hitting .338 at AAA in 77 AB.

Raul Mondesi was back in the Storm Chasers lineup after not having played since July 9. He went 0-3 but it was encouraging to see the Royals top "prospect" back to playing.

Cheslor Cuthbert homered for the 2nd time in two games as he continues to rehab in Omaha. I would imagine that he will be back in KC very quickly if Torres continues to struggle. Cuthbert was 2-5 Thursday with a HR and a 2B.

Jorge Soler finished 1-2 with a 2B and 2 BB. He's slashing .291/.408/.558/.966 with 13 HR in 172 AB for Omaha this year.

Brian Flynn received the start for Omaha on Thursday, and looked particularly good. He finished with 4.1 IP, 1 ER, and 7K.

Eric Stout continues to look excellent out of the 'pen for Omaha. He threw a scoreless inning with 1 K.

AA – Northwest Arkansas Naturals

Final Score: NWA 3 – Springfield Cardinals 5

Paulo Orlando and Hunter Dozier were both in the lineup for NWA on Thursday on rehab assignments, and they both finished the game 1-3. Dozier added a BB to his tally.

Mauricio Ramos continues to swing a hot bat for the Naturals since returning from his rehab assignment. He finished Thursday 2-3 with a pair of doubles, a BB and an RBI.

Humberto Arteaga finished 2-4 with an RBI and has his average up to .285 at AA.

High-A – Wilmington Blue Rocks

Final Score: FRE Keys 2 – Wilmington 3

Nick Heath had a really nice game for the Blue Rocks on Thursday, finishing 3-4 with an RBI.

Wander Franco went 2-4 and scored a run.

Jecksson Flores finished 1-2 with a BB and a pair of runs scored.

Grant Gavin fired 2 more perfect innings in relief Thursday, striking out 4, earning the save. His ERA is down to 2.18 at High-A.

Walker Sheller also looks pretty good out of the 'pen for the Blue Rocks. He fired 3.1 scoreless innings on Thursday, striking out 2.

Low-A – Lexington Legends

Final Score: Lexington 9 – Hickory Crawdads 1

Khalil Lee and the Legends are on a roll again. Lee finished the game 2-5 with a 3B and the Legends won their 5th game out of their last 7 on Thursday.

Emmanuel Rivera finished the game 2-5 with a HR (11) and 3 RBI. He's now batting .299 for Lexington.

Gabriel Cancel continues to swing a big bat, finishing 1-4 with his 12th HR of the year for Lexington. Read more about Cancel from our very own Patrick Brennan here.

John Brontsema finished 2-4 with a 2B and an RBI, and is now hitting .331 on the campaign.

Marten Gasparini hit his 9th HR of the year, finishing 1-4 with 3 RBI.

Garrett Davila, a highly touted LHP prospect for KC, had a really nice start on Thursday, throwing 6 scoreless innings while only allowing 1 hit. He struck out 5.

Rookie – Idaho Falls Chukars

Final Score: IDF 7 – GTF Voyagers 1

The Chukars offense was on fire again on Thursday, tallying 12 hits to go with their 7 runs.

Travis Jones continues to show no regard for the feelings of opposing pitchers. Jones finished Thursday's game 2-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. He's hitting .378 for IDF.

Logan Gray finished 2-5 with a 2B and 2 RBI.

Tyler Straub finished 2-4 with a BB.

Freddy Fermin finished the game 2-5.

2016 draft pick Dillon Drabble fired 5 scoreless innings for IDF on Thursday, striking out 3. His ERA is 0.93.

Rookie – Burlington Royals

Final Score: BUR 4 – ELZ Twins 1

I gotta be honest with you, the Burlington Royals might be my favorite team in the Royals system. They were just showing off again on Thursday.

Three Burlington Royals combined to throw 9 innings without allowing an earned run, while only walking 3.

2017 3rd round pick Daniel Tillo got the start Thursday and fired 5 scoreless innings, striking out 2. His ERA is at 2.45 for Burlington. The 20-year old has looked impressive so far in his pro career.

2017 10th round pick Jordan Floyd fired 2 innings in relief, allowing 1 unearned run. The K-State product has a 1.62 ERA for Burlington.

Yerelmy Garcia threw 2 scoreless innings and earned the save. His ERA is now 2.86.

Jeison Guzman finished 2-3 with a BB and scored 2 runs.

Seuly Matias was 1-4 with an RBI.

Rookie – AZL Royals

Final Score: AZL Royals 3 – AZL Dodgers 5

Brady Cox hit his first professional HR on Thursday, finishing 2-4 with 2 RBI.

Angel Medina finished 2-4 and raised his BA to .267.

Brewer Hicklen finished 1-4 and is hitting .361.

Rookie – DSL Royals

Final Score: DSL Athletics 3 – DSL Royals 2

Delvin Capellan is putting together one hell of a rookie season in the DSL. He threw 5 more innings on Thursday and didn't allow a run, believe it or not. He struck out 5 and lowered his ERA to 0.53.
