Daily Royals Minor League Recap: July 19, 2017

AAA – Omaha Storm Chasers

Final Score: Colorado Springs Sky Sox 8, Omaha Storm Chasers 4

What was a good game until the 12th inning ended in an ugly fashion as C Bryan Pena and IF Dean Anna had to pitch the final inning, surrendering 4 runs, and ultimately costing the Storm Chasers the game. No, it wasn’t their fault.

Frank Schwindel had a big day at the plate for the Storm Chasers. The 25-year old DH finished 3-5 with a 2B and his 6th HR of the year for Omaha.

Corey Toups finished 2-4 with an RBI and a 2B and a BB.

Ryan O’Hearn finished 2-4 with a 3B and a BB.

Cheslor Cuthbert got his first hit during his rehab assignment. It was a 3B.

Luke Farrell had a really nice outing for Omaha, going 6 IP, giving up 2 runs and striking out 6.

Sam Selman looked really really good out of the pen for his first 2 innings in relief on Wednesday. He threw 2 perfect innings while striking out 3, but then struggled in his third inning of work allow 2 runs while only getting 1 out.

Kyle Zimmer tossed a perfect inning in relief.

AA- Northwest Arkansas Naturals

Final Score: Springfield Cardinals 8, Northwest Arkansas Naturals 4

Donnie Dewees Jr. continues to swing a hot bat, as he hit his 7th HR of the year for NWA and finished the game 2-5. He’s now hitting .261 on the year, after hitting .354 in June.

Catcher Nick Dini also added 2 hits on Wednesday, as he continues his hot streak as well. Dini is now hitting .374 on the campaign.

Allan de San Miguel finished the game 1-3 with a 2B, a BB, 2 RBI, and a run scored.

A – Lexington Legends

Final Score: Columbia Fireflies 16, Lexington Legends 2

Obviously, not a lot went right on Wednesday for Lexington.

Khalil Lee finished 1-4 with a BB.

Yeison Melo finished 2-5 with a run scored.

Meibrys Viloria finished 1-4 with a 2B and a run scored.

Vance Vizcaino finished 2-3 with 2 RBI and is now hitting .286 since being promoted to Low-A Lexington.

Rookie – Burlington Royals

Final Score: Johnson City Cardinals 9, Burlington Royals 8

Seuly Matias hit a 3B and drove in 2 runs on Wednesday and continues to give Royals fans hope that he may one day be the top prospect we hope he can be.

Reed Rohlman finished the game 3-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Oliver Nunez continues to knock the cover off of the ball, as he finished 2-5 with 2 runs scored. He’s now hitting .338 on the year.

Tyler Zuber threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief and struck out 6 for Burlington. His ERA is now down to 2.70.

Luis Alcantara threw 3 innings in relief allowing 1 run and striking out 2. His ERA on the year is now 2.87.

AZL – AZL Royals

Final Score: AZL Cubs 5, AZL Royals 4

2017 1st round pick Nick Pratto launched his 3rd professional HR, and 2nd round pick MJ Melendez drew 2 BB on Wednesday night, as the pair continue to impress in the AZL. These are two of my favorite draft picks by Dayton Moore in the last couple of years, and they look better and better all the time.

SS Max Bartlett also went deep on Wednesday, his 1st of the year.

Mauricio Ramos finished 2-3 with a 2B as he is still on his rehab assignment from AA-NWA.

5th round pick Charlie Neuweiler threw 3 innings of 1 run ball in relief on Wednesday, striking out 6 and walking none. His ERA is down to 1.59.

DSL – DSL Royals

Final Score:  DSL Astros Blue 6, DSL Royals 0

Leandro Mendez threw 2 perfect innings in relief for the DSL Royals, striking out 3. His ERA is currently at 0.00.

A kid named Paul Mondesi got a hit for the DSL Royals and was 1-3.

Reynin Reynoso finished 2-4.
