Daily Royals Minor League Recap: July 11, 2017

Rookie – DSL Royals (15-18)

Final Score: DSL Rays 2, DSL Royals 1

The only Royals Minor League team in action on Tuesday was the DSL Royals of the Dominican Summer League. Featuring mostly young international signings, the DSL Royals had a performance from one young man that has officially landed him on my “prospect radar” for the future.

On the mound for the DSL Royals on Tuesday was 18-year old Delvin Capellan. Throwing 5 innings in his start Tuesday, Capellan gave up 0 runs and struck out 4 while only surrendering 2 hits. Capellan has been dominant this season, to say the least, his ERA is down to 0.77 after 7 starts. He currently has 30 K to 1 BB in 35 IP. His WHIP of 0.69 and 30:1 K:BB ratio is one of the more impressive combination of stats I’ve seen from a pitching prospect.

Capellan was signed by the Royals as a free agent in 2016, and was assigned to his first Minor League team this summer in the DSL. At the ripe old age of 18, Delvin Capellan still has time to bloom into a top prospect or fade away to never be heard from again, but he has definitely been the most impressive player on the DSL Royals so far in 2017.
